How to start forming a team
A Thrivent Builds Worldwide trip can be organized by an individual or a group from one or more Lutheran organizations. At least 50% of trip participants need to be Thrivent Financial members and a minimum of 10-15 people are needed for a trip. Think about talking to:
- Your Sunday School
- Church committees you serve on
- Your local Thrivent chapter
Team leader requirements
- Thrivent Financial for Lutherans membership
- Recommendation by the local Thrivent Regional Financial Office and Thrivent Builds Worldwide staff
- Past participation in a Thrivent Builds Worldwide trip or experience with a similar humanitarian team
- Leadership experience
- International travel experience (waived for those leading trips in the U.S.)
- Ability to recruit Thrivent Financial members to join your team
- Attendance at team leader training
Four straightforward steps to become a trip leader

Verify your Thrivent Financial membership.
- Contact your local Manager of Lutheran Community Services (MLCS).
- Complete and submit the team interest form (Word, 204K) with your MLCS. Your MLCS recommends you to a Thrivent Builds Worldwide coordinator.
- The Thrivent Builds Worldwide coordinator will contact you to discuss your trip ideas, team leader training options and the next steps to send your team on a life-changing trip.
Team leader training
You’ll enjoy thorough training to prepare you for leading your Thrivent Builds Worldwide team!
- 2 days of live, interactive training conducted by Habitat for Humanity’s Global Village staff in various locations*
- Travel to the training site is at the team leader’s expense
- Thrivent Financial for Lutherans pays one-half of the team leader training registration fee for Thrivent Financial members
- An online training option may be available for team leaders that are able to handle their own registration and financial procedures.
Team leaders for Gulf Coast Community trips do not need to attend the 2-day training session, but are required to participate in online training.
