Your Thrivent Builds Worldwide Gulf Coast Community volunteer trip week

Monday
  • Arrive at the Gulf Port/Biloxi International Airport. You’re greeted by your Thrivent Builds Worldwide transportation coordinator and driven to special volunteer housing.
  • Meet your teammates at a thorough orientation meeting that evening
  • Learn the logistics of your week, including meal times and making your sack lunch for the job site
  • Enjoy your first group dinner at your volunteer accommodations.
  • Tuesday
  • You’ll be driven to your job site.
  • Meet your construction leader and get trained on your task for the day.
  • After a day on the job, you’re picked up for an hour tour of the total devastation wrought by Hurricane Katrina, still visible after more than 2 years.
  • Wednesday
  • A full day of building. As for each day, meals, transportation, job site materials, tools and training are all provided.
  • Take an optional walking tour or visit to the Katrina Memorial.
  • Thursday
  • A full day of building.
  • Enjoy a taste of the South at a local restaurant in the evening.
  • Friday
  • Your last day on the jobsite will end with a closing ceremony.
  • Partner families may join your team for dinner in the evening.
  • Saturday
  • Check out of volunteer housing by 10:00 a.m.
  • Transportation provided to the airport.
  • We know you are eager to work as long and as much as possible during your trip to help families in the Mississippi Gulf Coast achieve the dream of affordable housing. The Gulf Coast Community trips incorporate a total of four full build days. While many members would like to spend more days on the build site during the trip, weekend days on the build site are reserved for full-time working partner families to work toward their sweat equity requirements. This also allows time for the local community to be involved in rebuilding efforts.
