Your local affiliate can give you information on the availability,
size, costs and sweat-equity requirements for Habitat houses in your
area, as well as information on the application process.
A Hand Up
Through this program, we will not build houses for families; rather, we will build homes with those who demonstrate need and willingness to partner with Habitat for Humanity and Thrivent Financial for Lutherans. Homeowner families invest hundreds of hours of their own “sweat equity” labor into their houses. Homeowners qualify for zero-interest mortgages, then make monthly mortgage payments that go into a revolving fund that supports the construction of more homes.
Through this approach, Thrivent Builds Homes gives partner families a hand up, restoring the hope and dignity that poverty can strip away.
Building in Faith
Habitat for Humanity International is a nonprofit, ecumenical Christian
organization dedicated to eliminating substandard housing and homelessness
worldwide and to making adequate, affordable shelter a matter of conscience
and action. Habitat was founded in response to the Gospel message that God loves all people and that every man, woman and child should have a simple, decent, affordable place to live in dignity and safety.
Part of the mission of Thrivent Financial, as a faith-based membership
organization serving Lutherans, is caring for others. Participating
in this program with Habitat is a prime example of this mission in action.
The program also provides Habitat with an opportunity to work with organizations
that share its values and desire to help eliminate poverty housing.
Habitat’s ministry is a perfect fit with Thrivent Financial’s
mission as a faith-based membership organization.
